quick guide
- Install the protective fence: Press the solar cage protective fence against the module frame and the roof covering.
- Attach J-hook: Slide a J-hook through the protective fence and hook it onto the module frame from behind.
- Attach the clamping disc: Press the clamping disc firmly into place. It is helpful to put the disc on the J-hook beforehand.
- Trim the excess J-hook: Bend the excess part of the J-hook or cut it to a length of 1 cm.
- Fold down the protective fence: Fold the protruding protective fence down so that it sits flush with the module frame.
Detailed description
The solar cage is designed to be quick and easy to install - even without special tools. In just a few steps, you can effectively protect your solar system from pigeons and other pests.
Below we will show you the installation process in more detail so that you can get an idea of how easy the installation is. See for yourself how easy the solar cage is to use!
Security
Safety comes first! Never work alone on the roof and always wear fall protection. Use a stable scaffold or cherry picker and avoid using unsafe ladders. Detailed information can be found in the BG BAU leaflet
Preparation
Prepare material: solar cage, J-hooks, clamping discs, C-clamps (optional)
For installation you need:
- A pair of tin snips: For precise cutting of the solar cage. We recommend a pair of tin snips with a spring mechanism for easy cutting
- A pair of pliers (e.g. combination pliers): For securely fastening the J-hooks.
Optional for retrofitting: Clean the module surface (possibly hire a cleaning company), remove dirt under the solar system
Roll out the solar cage
Roll out the protective fence evenly along the outside of the solar system. It is best to work in sections.
For recesses such as skylights or other obstacles, proceed in the same way by attaching the protective fence to the inside of the recess. Make sure that the solar cage is attached seamlessly both on the outside and at the recesses to ensure complete protection from pests.
create a protective fence
Place the safety fence so that it curves slightly outwards. This curve gives the system a high level of stability.
Position the protective fence either flush with the top edge of the solar modules or allow it to protrude slightly, depending on your preference and the conditions of the system.
Make sure that the safety fence fits securely everywhere and that there are no gaps.
Adjusting the solar cage
Mounting rails: Carefully cut the solar cage along the rails as closely as possible. Then press the protective fence into place so that it is flush and there are no gaps.
Module corners: Cut the solar cage at the corners so that it can be adjusted optimally. By cutting slightly, folding is possible and the solar cage fits neatly.
Roof tiles: Cut the solar cage into the raised bead of the roof tiles and press it into the bead. Only follow this step for beadings with a depth of more than 3-4 cm.
fastening
Using a J-hook: Insert a J-hook through the solar cage and hook it onto the module frame. Then press the clamping disc firmly against the solar module.
To ensure safety: Bend the protruding hook to the side to avoid injury. Alternatively, you can shorten the protrusion, but leave at least 1 cm.
fold over excess
Carefully fold down the excess solar cage created in step 3. Press it firmly so that it fits securely against the module frame.
Attention: Note the special features of the C-clamps
Installation of the C-clamps
Please note: If you need our C-clamps for your solar system, the solar cage must not protrude beyond the module frame. The protective fence must be flush with the top edge of the module.
Adjusting the Solar Cage: Pinch a vertical bar out of the solar cage where you want to place a C-clamp. This will create space for the clamp and ensure a secure attachment.
